Why is there a need for art to engage all of the senses?
Artwork primarily is looked upon, using one sense, sense of sight. But modern artwork, now have been exploiting all the other senses, such as sense of touch, taste, smell and hear. When an artwork engages more than one sense, this lets the audience feels less restricted and free to observe the artwork as they please, giving them a better understanding of the meaning behind the work. For example an artwork may be peaceful and calming when looking at it, but when a viewer may touch it, it might be sharp and rough, changing the whole meaning to an artwork.
Are contemporary artists concerned with the longevity of their work?
Contemporary artists are artists that make modern day artworks. Contemporary art began around the 1960's and is still present to this day. Some of these modern day artists are not concerned about how long their artworks will last, just as long as their audience have viewed it and their message has been put out there, this is called contemporary art. Some may disagree with this being a type of art, because the viewers may not understand the abstract of it and don't think it is real art.
